This was the last dive of the last day (Oct. 22, 2025) of the Port Hardy dive trip. This is another one of the proper dives in Browning Pass that makes people come all the way up to Port Hardy to dive. This was my first time here and it seemed very similar to the other famous sites along this side of Browning Pass (Browning Wall, Rock of Life, Hussar Point). The outside of the island has a wall that drops down deeper than I wanted to go (my maximum depth was 94'). The wall is covered with all the usual red soft coral, white plumose anemones and yellow sponges. I saw a few Irish lords, China rockfish and kelp greenlings, but there seemed to be less fish here compared to nearby Rock of Life. Visibility was about 30', which is about half of what it was last year when I dove Browning Pass in September.
The sandy channel behind the islet is supposed to have fields of sea pens. I only saw one small one, but a couple of sea lions swam back and forth in the distance. They never came closer than about 20' away.
This site was very similar to the Rock of Life site, but I think I prefer Rock of Life because it seems to have more fish and it has that large surfgrass bed in the shallows that I prefer to the stalked kelp at 7 Tree.
