These photos are from Oct. 15, 2023. The current was too strong to swim out into the channel. I kneeled on the sandy bottom next to the reef and took some pictures in my immediate area, while trying to not get swept away. Visibility was about 20'.
I gave up fighting the current and swam back towards shore. On my way up to the kelp bed, I saw a cabezon out on the sand. It was surrounded by a gang of rockfish and kelp greenlings. I usually see this behavior with the fish surrounding octopus. This is the first time I've seen them harassing a cabezon.
I came back the next weekend (Oct. 21, 2023). This time the current let me swim farther out into the channel. Visibility was also a bit better today (30').
