This is a large pier/wharf/dock in downtown Kailua-Kona. Next to it is a sandy, sheltered beach that is a popular snorkeling spot. Good luck finding parking anywhere near the pier. You might be able to park several blocks up the hill in one of the strip mall parking lots. Or do what we did and take the "Loser Cruiser", a free tourist open trolley-style bus that does the rounds of the hotels and condos. One of the stops is right in front of the pier. The beach is small and pretty crowded. The small bay was murky and mostly had a sandy bottom.
As we swam out of the bay, the visibility improved nicely.
