Last week when I dove here, I didn't see any of the small cloud sponges that I saw here several years ago. Today (Aug. 15, 2021) I wanted to visit another rocky area off the point that might have been the spot where I saw the cloud sponges. I showed up this time at high tide (which makes access easier) and it wasn't as windy as last week.
Visibility in the shallows was about 15-20'. Below 30' deep, visibility improved to 50-80'.
The gentle rock/sand slope ended in a large rocky area that dropped off in a wall to about 120-130' deep. I swam along the top of the wall about 90-110' deep. I didn't see any cloud sponges and only one boot sponge, but there were carpets of feather stars.
I realized that I had reached the area that I had dove the week before. I started the swim back to shore. I recognized some zoanthid-covered boulders as the ones I saw here several years ago.
