I haven't been here in awhile so I drove down to the Trailer Park Islets on Sept. 28, 2025.
As I snorkeled over the shallow reefs near the beach, a harbour seal swam beneath me.
As I swam out on the surface to the islets the water was full of herring. As I neared the islets, I seemed to be swimming for quite a while without getting any closer. I descended and realized that the current was the strongest I've ever felt here. I tried to take my usual route around the East side of the islets, but the current was too strong to swim against. It was like heading into a wall. I had to give up and spend the dive along the sheltered side of the islets. Visibility was around 20' or maybe 30' in places where there weren't big schools of herring blocking the view.
There's a tiny canyon that runs through the top of the reef on the South side of the islets. One wall of this canyon has a patch of hydrocoral that I've been visiting over the years. Today there was that very strong current flowing through this canyon, but I struggled through it and reassured myself that the hydrocoral was still there.
There's a wall that drops down to about 50' deep on the South-West tip of the reefs. This is probably my favorite part of this dive site and today it was just barely sheltered enough from the current for a quick visit.
